European wild ass

Equus hydruntinus first fossils are from the second half of the Middle Pleistocene and its last fossils are from the Iron Age. It inhabited the Near East, the north of Africa and Europe, where it retreated to the warmer south during the glacial periods. Some experts consider the mysterious equid called encebro, mentioned in some spanish medieval texts, to be surviving members of this species.

I based its appearance on all the current ass species. I will find a way to make its pelage fluffier though, being an animal from colder periods. The background picture is from the Wikiwand page for steppe.
